How this Shopify estimate works

Shopify charges a separate third-party transaction fee on top of your payment processor's fee whenever you don't use Shopify Payments. That rate gets smaller on higher-tier plans — Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus each carry a different default percentage, which this calculator fills in automatically when you choose a plan.

Turning on "Using Shopify Payments?" sets the transaction fee to $0, since Shopify waives it for accounts using its own integrated payment processing. The processor rate and fixed fee remain editable either way, so you can model your actual processor's cost on top.

Shopify fee calculator FAQ

What is the Shopify transaction fee?

It's an extra percentage Shopify charges on every order when you use a payment processor other than Shopify Payments. It is separate from your monthly plan subscription and separate from whatever fee your payment processor charges — it's layered on top.

Why does the fee go to 0% when Shopify Payments is enabled?

Shopify waives its third-party transaction fee entirely when you use Shopify Payments as your processor, since Shopify already earns revenue from that integrated processing. If you use a third-party gateway like PayPal or a separate merchant account, the transaction fee applies in addition to that gateway's own processing fee.

How much does the Shopify transaction fee rate change by plan?

Shopify's third-party transaction fee decreases as you move up plans: roughly 2.0% on Basic, 1.0% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced, and 0.2% on Plus. Selecting a plan above fills in that default rate automatically, and you can still edit it if your account has custom terms.

Does this calculator include Shopify's monthly subscription cost?

No. This tool only models per-order transaction-level fees — the Shopify third-party transaction fee and your payment processor's rate and fixed fee. Your monthly Shopify plan subscription is a separate, recurring cost that is intentionally out of scope here so you can isolate the per-sale math.

Can I use this calculator on mobile?

Yes. The calculator is fully responsive and works on phones and tablets, so you can check a Shopify order's net proceeds from anywhere.
